We’ve been asking ourselves how we can prove our honesty in a media landscape where corporate messaging is often shaped by advertisers, specialists, and lobbyists. Too often, those with the ability to pay for “good words” aren’t the ones willing to take real action. At Aguaro, we wanted to make sure our actions speak louder than any words.
Even though we are already a purpose-driven company, governed by France’s “Pacte” Law with a mission dedicated to sustainability, we felt it was time to do more. That’s when we found inspiration in a small yet powerful initiative started over a decade ago by Patagonia’s founder, Yvon Chouinard: 1% for the Planet. This commitment means donating 1% of our revenue—regardless of whether we’re profitable or not—to environmental causes.
Why This Matters
For us, the key isn’t about making grand claims but about showing our dedication to the planet in real, measurable ways. 1% of our turnover may not seem like a lot, but it represents 100% of our effort. We believe that true commitment to sustainability is about consistent action, no matter the scale.
Our participation in 1% for the Planet is about proving that businesses can make an impact without needing to frame it as something extraordinary. It’s about showing up and doing our part, quietly and sincerely.
Inspiring Others to Join
We’re not going to overstate our role or preach, but we wanted to make this public to encourage others to do the same. It’s not about showing off; it’s about contributing to a larger movement that will have a bigger collective impact.
So, the question we’re asking is simple: Who’s next?
In today’s world, where sustainability is often used as a buzzword, we’re calling on other companies to take a genuine step forward and join the 1% for the Planet initiative. Together, even our small actions can create real change.
